Favourite Piece of Furniture – Ann Squires Ferguson, Western Interior Group

The ability to create something that symbolizes the perfect union of style and function is what constitutes successful design.

Some of the most iconic and memorable pieces of furniture are timeless not for their overly complex aesthetic but for their incredibly simple and minimal design—functional (sometimes multi-functional) and visually appealing.

SPRUCE asked several designers to reveal their favourite furniture pieces.

Today, we ask Ann Squires Ferguson of Western Interior Design.

Roche Bobois Mah Jong sofa

“I have a million favourites, but the all-time winner for me is the Roche Bobois Mah Jong sofa components, originally designed in 1971 by Hans Hopfer. Reinterpreted for every decade, this modular system allows sofas, settees, longues and ottomans to be reconfigured to suit the grooviest hang-out or the coziest cuddle party. Vivid textiles clash harmoniously – and yes, that is SO POSSIBLE! – proving that every colour can be complementary, if your vision is complex enough. My dream pad has a sunken living room, a floating circular fireplace.”
